David Drake, Rick Narup and Randy Mead hung out their first shingle as Drake, Narup & Mead on February 14 1989. Former members of another firm, the trio had no clients but had a vision of the future of the legal profession: to provide high-quality legal services without all the cost, structure and bureaucracy of a top-heavy big law firm.
Within two weeks, Drake, Narup & Mead was representing the insureds of the nation's biggest general lines carrier and the insureds of the state's principle professional liability insurer.
The Firm Grew in the 1990s
In 1991, the firm relocated to its current office space at 107 East Allen St. The business grew and the time had come to hire more lawyers. Chris Biswell was added to the Drake, Narup & Mead family in 2001 and immediately launched into a diverse practice, including medical and legal malpractice defense.
Jeff Cocagne joined the firm as an associate in 2018, having worked in the field of civil litigation in the eastern part of Illinois. Jason Schutte joined the firm as a partner in 2022, with an extensive background defending insurance companies.
Small Firm With a Big-Firm Impact
Today, Drake, Narup & Mead is still a small firm with a big-firm impact, but without the big firm bill. It is poised to handle everything from subrogation to workers' compensation to the most intricate professional liability matter.
